Ken’s technical background is in physics, and he is a registered Patent Attorney in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. He specialises in patents for software and computer technology, and has experience in a wide variety of other technologies, particularly FinTech, semiconductors, anti-counterfeiting technology, additive manufacturing, optics and bioinformatics.

Ken has worked with a range of clients in both the private and public sectors in Australia, Singapore and the UK, helping them to obtain, defend and enforce IP rights, as well as advising them on freedom-to-operate and IP strategy.

In addition to his years in private practice, Ken has worked as in-house counsel for a large multinational financial services company, where he advised on all areas of IP, including IP-related aspects of contracts and M&A deals, patent and brand strategy and protection, and technology and brand licensing.  Having worked closely with product teams, he has a keen appreciation of how IP plays an integral role in the lead-up to product launch and beyond.

Ken conducted postdoctoral research at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) where he collaborated with scientists in a range of fields including cancer and infectious diseases, as well as developing new statistical and computational methods.  He is co-author of a number of peer-reviewed journal articles and has contributed to open source software for use by the bioinformatics community (http://aroma-project.org).
