PatentsBiotechnologyTania specialises in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in a range of biotechnology-related fields, including immunology, immunotherapy, vaccines, stem cells, cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology, medical diagnostics and genetically-modified plants.
Tania provides commercially-driven advice to clients on patent strategy and IP portfolio management, and also advises on patent validity and infringement. She also has experience in contentious patent matters, including patent opposition proceedings both in Australia and in other jurisdictions.
After graduating from the University of Melbourne with a PhD in immunology and microbiology, Tania completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Bethesda, USA, studying hepatitis C virus pathogenesis and immunology. She then took up a position at the FDA as a Visiting Scientist; a combined scientific and regulatory role that included the review of Investigational New Drug (IND) applications.
Tania moved in to the field of intellectual property in 2005 and spent 5 years working as a patent professional in leading IP and general firms in San Diego, USA, before returning to Australia to join Davies Collison Cave. In addition to her extensive experience in IP firms working with corporate, academic and start-up clients, Tania also previously held the in-house role of Head of IP at Nourish Ingredients, a high growth biotech/food tech start-up.
