Marion’s major area of practice is in Trade Mark law where she has gained extensive experience in strategically advising on international trade mark portfolio management and protection particularly within the Asia Pacific region. With a number of legal and scientific qualifications she has developed a particular knowledge in relation to geographical indications and agro economic and ecology issues.

Marion has completed the WIPO Advanced Course on Intellectual Property, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions and the University of Melbourne MicroCert on Indigenous Cultural and Creative IP. Marion was the inaugural chair of INTA’s Indigenous Rights Committee, and is currently Chair of INTA’s Brands for a Better Society Committee. She also Co Chair’s INTAs first DEI Council.

Having previously served on INTA’s Board of Directors she has also served on their Asia Pacific Advisory Council and has facilitated in the International Moot held in Singapore. On behalf of INTA she has also provided support to a number of WIPO education initiatives for indigenous peoples and local communities including participating on behalf of INTA in the WIPO Women’s Entrepreneurial Programs. Marion is a regular speaker on IP related topics in a variety of Forums, teaches on INTA’s Annual Academic Course on International Trademark Law and Practice and is considered an INTA Influencer. She is also Team Lead of the Marques IP Emerging Issues Team and has attended WIPO IGC meetings on Marques behalf. She is a co-author the Australian Chapter of Lexis Nexis’ International Pharmaceutical Law and Practice, and was a co-editor of the JIPLP special issue on Indigenous intangible property rights.

Marion is the recipient of numerous peer accolades including being repeatedly featured as one of Australia’s leading Trade Mark Law Practitioners in the Managing Intellectual Property’s Expert Guide and as an ‘IP Star’. She is considered by Best Lawyers as one of ‘Australia’s Top Lawyers’ in Intellectual Property, as one of Asia Law’s leading lawyers, among the world’s leading practitioners in the Expert Guides: Trade Marks edition, and Asia IP Expert as well as being a leading individual in the World Trade Mark Review 1000. She is recommended by Doyle’s Guide as a “leading Intellectual Property Lawyer’ and listed as one MIPs Top 250 Women in IP and by Experts Guide – Women in Business Law as one of the leading Trademark practitioners in the world. She appears in WWL’s Global Elite Thought Leaders and as an WTR Global Leader.

In 2019 Marion was the recipient of INTA’s prestigious President’s Award which ‘acknowledges the profound appreciation of the global trade mark community to INTA members who, over the course of their career, have made a lasting impact on the Association and its mission’. Marion has previously received INTA’s ‘Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Trademark Law’. In 2022 she was named in World IP Review Diversity 50 Influential Women in IP.
