1877

Pioneers of Australian Patent Law

Charles Collison and John Conigrave established a patent agent business in Adelaide, South Australia. Charles was instrumental in founding the first professional body of patent agents, The Australasian Institute of Patent Agents.

1904

Expansion to Melbourne

The Australian Patent Office opened in Melbourne in 1904 and Charles relocated the firm to Melbourne under the name Collison & Co.

1906

Australia’s first
trade mark

With Federation of the States in 1905, the new federal trade mark registration system commenced. Daisy Williams, an employee of Collison & Co. Melbourne, was first in line when the Patent Office opened and filed trade mark application No. 1. Daisy remained an employee of the firm for 60 years and the Certificate of Registration remains in our Melbourne Office.

1929

Davies & Collison

The Melbourne practice of Collison & Co. was acquired by Les Davies and our name changed to Davies & Collison.

1960s

Canberra office opened

1991

Davies Collison Cave

Leading Sydney firm Arthur S. Cave was acquired from Stan Cave and Jim Siely, and the present day Davies Collison Cave was born. The Sydney firm already had a rich heritage: Arthur Cave had purchased the 1882-founded firm of Fred Walsh in 1937.

Brisbane office opens

Singapore
office opens

The firm opened its office in Singapore, a gateway IP Hub for the Asian region.

DCC Consulting launches

DCC expands its capabilities by offering strategic intellectual asset governance, IP valuation and virtual IP counsel services.

    • DCC Advanz Malaysia Sdn Bhd Reg. No 201701028140 (1242306-U), an incorporated intellectual property consultancy, patent and trade mark prosecution business in Malaysia.
