DCC out and about
It has been a busy quarter, with several seminars and events happening across our offices. Below are some of the highlights.
Myriad… Do you want some mayo with that? Strategies for dealing with unpalatable subject matter | Brisbane
In November, DCC’s Brisbane office hosted a lunchtime seminar. We were lucky to have specialist Dr Bill Christiansen, from Cooley LLP’s Patent Counselling & Prosecution Practice Group and Litigation Department in Seattle, present at the seminar.
Dr Christiansen specialises in the life science space, and discussed the implications of the US Supreme Court decision on Myriad v Mayo, and the recently issued USPTO guidelines for examining inventions based on laws and products of nature.
Swinburne Venture Cup 2014 | Melbourne
DCC was proud to sponsor The Swinburne Venture Cup 2014. This is an annual ‘New Venture Plan’ competition for teams of Swinburne students across all sections of the University. The entries ranged from social ventures, right through to high technology start-ups.
Mark Roberts, a Partner in the Melbourne office, assisted on the judging panel.
Mark attended the finalist presentation evening on Thursday 23 October to present the DCC sponsored prize. We would like to congratulate The Urb’n’Grow Connector team – winner of the DCC IP Award.
City 2 Sea
On Sunday 16 November, a team of 25 DCC Melbourne staff completed The Sunday Age City2Sea fun run.
The annual running of the City2Sea helps to raise funds through donations for more than 620 charities and has been doing this for the past four years.
The course, 15km with a shorter option of 5km, it started outside of the MCG, headed down Flinders Street, past Fed Square and Flinders St Station, taking in many iconic sites of Melbourne and finishing up at Cantani Gardens on the foreshore at St Kilda.
Although it poured with rain for the duration of the event the team still had a lot of fun along with the other 12,000 participants who braved the weather!
Smart Geelong Network (SGN) 2014 Researcher of the Year Awards Dinner
DCC was pleased to be a sponsor of the 10th annual Research and Innovation Expo which aims to promote and encourage break-through research, and world-class innovation. The awards dinner is an opportunity to showcase these initiatives being undertaken within the Geelong region.
Congratulations to the 2014 winners.
AusBiotech End of Year Drinks | Sydney
At the end of November, DCC Sydney was delighted to host the annual end of year drinks for the NSW Branch Committees of AusBiotech and AusMedtech.
It is the eighth year running that DCC has hosted the event, which has become a key social gathering for the industry and this year saw record numbers in attendance.
DCC closure dates
IP Australia will close for business from Thursday 25 December 2014 to Thursday 1 January 2015 inclusive. DCC will also take the opportunity to close for this period.
We wish you a safe and happy holiday!
