New Code of Conduct for Australian registered patent and/or trade mark attorneys

1 minute read

The Professional Standards Board (PSB) announced on 23 October 2013 that the Code of Conduct (the Code) has been updated.  The PSB is the governing body that regulates registered patent and trade mark attorneys in Australia.  The Code will come into force on 23 November 2013.

The Code was reviewed in response to changes made in the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment (Raising the Bar) Act 2012 and has been changed to allow companies to practice as registered patent and/or trade mark attorneys.  The Code has also been amended to clarify the behaviour and conduct expected of registered attorneys.

This update to the Code is the culmination of 18 months of hard work by the PSB in conjunction with public consultation regarding possible changes.  The Code represents a welcome update for those in the profession and the public alike.
