On 1 April 2016 the Japanese Patent Office (JPO) and the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (NOIP) commenced a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) Pilot Program.
This is another example of the strong ties between the two countries in relation to intellectual property rights. Vietnam has experienced a surge in patent filings over the last few years, many of these coming from Japanese entitites. Vietnam has a developing planned and market economy with a GDP growth rate of about 5.4%.
It currently stands as one of the fastest growing economies in the ASEAN region with Japan being one of its major import and export partners.
The requirements for participating in the new scheme can be found here.
Davies Collison Cave is well placed to assist you in your patenting strategy in the ASEAN region, including Vietnam.
