The Queensland Sustainable Energy Innovation Fund (QSEIF) provides funding assistance for Queensland based organisations to develop innovative technologies that reduce consumption of fossil fuels, water or greenhouse gas emissions. Since 1999, QSEIF has committed $8.9 million in funding to 77 energy and water saving projects in Queensland.
The fund provides grants of up to 80% of project costs (up to $200,000) through a competitive merit based assessment process. Costs associated with patenting and IP protection may be included, providing that these costs account for no more than 10% of total QSEIF funding.
There are two QSEIF funding rounds every year. For the next funding round, applications may be submitted between 9 May and 1 July 2011. At this stage applicants in this funding round are expected to be notified of the outcome of their submission by 5 December 2011.
The QSEIF is administered by the Queensland Government, and further information is available at http://www. derm.qld.gov.au/qseif, or from Dr Martin Gellender from the Queensland Department of Environment & Resource Management:
