Des Ryan celebrates 60 years
This week marks an incredible milestone as we celebrate Des Ryan’s 60 years with Davies Collison Cave.
Des started at Davies & Collison in 1954, fresh out of university, and in 1975 Des qualified as a lawyer. In 1981 Des established Davies & Ryan solicitors, now known as Davies Collison Cave Law. Des was Senior Partner of the firm from 1988 to 1996 and became a consultant to the firm in 2001 upon his retirement from the partnership.
Des has achieved numerous awards and accolades during his 60 years working in the IP field, including being awarded in 2001 as a Member of the Order of Australia for his contribution to intellectual property. Despite receiving this high honour Des states that the achievement that gave him “the most pride and satisfaction was being made President of the Institute of Patent Attorneys”, a position which Des held in 1975 and 1976. Des also served as President of the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) in 1988 and is a recipient of the prestigious LESI Gold Medal.
Enjoy this short interview between Des Ryan and Michael Wolnizer capturing Des’s journey through his 60 years at Davies Collison Cave covering the highlights, the challenges and his thoughts on the future of IP.
From all of the Davies Collison Cave partners and staff we take this opportunity to congratulate Des.
