Engineers Australia NSW Division – Entrepreneurs Workshop
The entrepreneurs Workshop has been held annually for many years, each year having different guest ‘entrepreneurs’ sharing their experiences and providing practical advice and tips to the attendees. Glenn Downey, Commercialisation Manager of NICTA opened the evening’s proceedings by describing the commercialisation process.
Will Hird, a partner of Davies Collison Cave discussed the important aspects of Intellectual Property for the engineering industry including patents, trade marks and registered designs. The simple but practical example of the “Berocca Twist” was used to highlight how aspects of a product can be protected using the IP system. Lisa Nolan, Director of Strategon and Tony Pike, Founder and Managing Director, FLAT Technology were the two entrepreneurial guest speakers who provided many practical tips on issues to consider when starting a business.
Demand to attend the entrepreneurs Workshop has been consistently high and as such Young engineers Australia, with the support of Davies Collison Cave, is again extending the workshops to Brisbane and Melbourne.
