Elizabeth (Liz) is the Head of Trade Marks at DCC, leading one of the most respected and experienced trade mark teams in the Asia Pacific.

With over 25 years of experience in the IP field, Liz also specialises in all aspects of trade mark protection including selecting, searching, applying for and prosecuting trade mark applications (local and international). Liz also has an extensive opposition and non-use practice and has exceptional knowledge and expertise in successfully running opposition matters through to Hearing in the Trade Marks Office and assisting on appeal matters to the Federal Court of Australia.

Liz started the firm working in Davies Collison Cave Law Pty Ltd in 2000, working in all areas of IP litigation for 10 years before moving to the Trade Marks Group.  As such Liz has a unique skill set which enables her to also run a strong contentious and enforcement practice, with a particular interest in domain names and online trade mark infringements (including via the Google AdWords program, social media and e-commerce websites).  Liz also assists clients with their Custom Seizure programs to prevent importation of counterfeit goods into Australia.

With a broad range of local and international clients, Liz is extremely responsive and client focused.  Liz provides commercial and tailored strategic advice to clients and highly values the relationships she builds with clients.

Liz has been recognised as a leading IP Professional, having receiving multiple awards and honours such as the MIP Top 250 Women in IP and as the MIP Australian Practitioner of the Year (Trade Marks and Patent Attorneys) 2023.

Liz is passionate about fostering a culture of inclusion, belonging and innovation at DCC and also heads up DCC’s Ways of Working stream of DCC’s in-house Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee.

Liz has published and presented extensively on trade mark developments and best practices, sharing her insights and knowledge with peers and clients. Liz’s focus is to deliver exceptional and tailored solutions for our clients’ IP needs, while empowering and supporting our trade mark professionals.
