Owen has been the team leader for a number of enforcement and court actions in both Hong Kong and China, including patent infringement and invalidation actions, acted as patent expert in a landmark Hong Kong High Court patent infringement case, handled IP licensing deals, and advised on IP protection and enforcement strategies, as well as drafting patent specifications and preparing and prosecuting patent and trade mark applications. Prior to his present role, Owen co-founded and was a principal of a boutique IP firm in Hong Kong for over 10 years. His career in IP law is underpinned by excellent technical qualifications in the fields of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and a wealth of practical experience working as a Biomedical Engineer, a Mechanical Engineer, and a Project Manager.
Owen spent many years as a professional engineer in fields such as manufacturing, petrochemical, mining, paper milling, chemical process, construction, design engineering, biomedical engineering, and R&D. In addition to these fields, Owen’s patent practice covers electronics, electrical engineering, power engineering, LED technology, wireless power technology, software and computer-implemented inventions, medical devices, mechanical devices, and chemical process technology. Owen also lectures at universities and presents at seminars and conferences on the subject of IP strategy and commercialisation.
